Below are our most frequently asked questions.
The following questions relate to issues downloaded or purchased on The Dirt website as PDF files. For information on issues downloaded or purchased via our iOS app, see the iOS devices section.
PDF issues are designed to be read on your computer. You will need to install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to read them.
When you open a PDF in a web browser, you can mouse over the display to cause buttons to display. One of these buttons will be the download button. The buttons might look like this:
Just click the Download button to save the PDF to your hard disk.
The process is the same for reading any PDF files on Kindle or your tablet. Since the process can vary widely depending on your Kindle version, tablet, etc. we recommend that you do a search online for something like “read PDF on my [device]. Follow the instructions to read PDFs from The Dirt on your device.
Please check your spam and junk email folders for an email from firstname.lastname@example.org. The email is addressed to the same email you entered when you ordered. This email would have arrived within 30 minutes of your purchase.
If you can’t find the email, or if your links have expired or don’t work, fill out the form at the bottom of this page and we will contact you to help resolve the issue.
The download links in your email expire 7 days after purchase. If you got free PDFs, just order them again and go through the checkout process. If you paid money for PDFs, you will need to contact us with the form at the bottom of this page to get new links.
We have made PDF downloads available via our website for our readers who do not have an iOS device, and these PDF files are completely separate from the issues available on iOS. When you subscribe on iPad/iPhone, the issues will be delivered to your iOS device in a format optimized for that platform. When you purchase a PDF, you receive a download link to download the PDF onto your computer.
If you want to get PDF issues in addition to getting them via our app on iPad/iPhone, you will need to purchase the PDF downloads separately.
We regularly offer discount coupon codes through our newsletter, and also through Instagram and Facebook. To get discount codes when we announce them, use the form at right to sign up for our newsletter. You can also follow us on Instagram and Like us on Facebook.
The following questions are about The Dirt app on iPad and iPhone. If you have questions about PDF downloads from our website, please see the PDF downloads section.
As of January 2018, The Dirt has switched to a quarterly format. For a short time, the subscriptions vanished completely (oops!) but we fixed that! You can now buy single issues, or you can subscribe quarter-to-quarter, or you can get an annual subscription. And, of course, you can still purchase individual back issues from our iOS app. We are going on hiatus to focus on book projects, so we recommend you subscribe to our newsletter to keep up to date on these amazing new books.
Let’s check a couple of things:
- Are you viewing the mag with the same Apple ID you used to buy it? And on the same device you downloaded it to originally?
- Do you still have the app installed, and is it the most current version?
If you answered yes to all of these, then do the following:
- Tap into the app.
- Tap an issue.
- Tap Subscribe.
- Tap Restore All Purchases.
This should give you access to any missing issues.
If you don’t have your phone connected to a wireless internet service (Wifi) it can take what seems like forever to download. Make sure your internet connection is on, then try again.
YES! The Dirt is still available through Apple for iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches. And now you can also buy single issues in PDF format to download onto your computer.

You can do so, as long as you are signed in on both devices with the same Apple ID, The Dirt should automatically appear on each. Also note on the navigation page that The Dirt is available in two formats—one designed for easier reading on an iPhone, and one specifically for iPad. This can happen when Apple was unable to charge you for purchases with the payment method you specified. See this Apple help page for information on resolving this issue.
Please note that The Dirt does not have, or have access to, anything resembling an “Account Number” that relates to your subscription; this is entirely an Apple-generated message. If you continue to have this problem after updating your payment method, contact us using the form below and we will try to help you out with the problem.
No. The Dirt is available only for iOS devices.
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap Settings.
- Scroll down to iTunes & App Store, and tap.
- Tap Apple ID.
- Tap View Apple ID. (If prompted, enter your Apple ID.)
- Tap Subscriptions, then tap The Dirt on Organic Gardening.
- Select the change you want to make in your subscription.
. Your subscription has cancelled automatically when we stopped offering them.
